Eze announced his choice on a Nashville radio station.

“I was comfortable with the coaches,” said Eze, 18. “I feel comfortable playing football there. I feel I have an opportunity to play, and they have a good business school. It worked out for me.”

Eze, a 6-foot-7, 280-pound offensive tackle, had scholarship offers from all of the Southeastern Conference schools except Arkansas and Texas A&M. Duke and four of those SEC schools — Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee — were also among the final six that Eze considered, which he announced last Wednesday.

“I wasn’t under any pressure, because I was making the right choice,” Eze said. “I was relaxed about it and so happy. It feels really good. The feeling is really awesome.”

Rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, the 26th-ranked offensive tackle in the Class of 2017 and the state’s eighth-ranked prospect overall, Eze will make his varsity debut in Friday’s season opener against Friendship Christian.

He was relegated to junior-varsity action last season due to Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association eligibility rules pertaining to exchange students.

“I’m focused on getting through my senior year and doing everything I can to get ready for college,” Eze said.

He recently participated in Nike’s The Opening, a four-day event for elite players held at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Eze is the fifth in-state commitment for the Tigers’ Class of 2017, joining Memphis East running back Timothy Taylor, Cordova defensive end Braylon Brown, Rhea County tight end Jared Edwards and Liberty Tech defensive end Elijah Harris. He’s the first four-star commitment for Memphis in the current signing class.
